5 rules for a successful blog

By browsing the internet for  blogging tips and advice then you are probably going to come across a lot of people’s guidance towards a successful blog. However many of these are going to be conflicting each other; leaving you stuck at what to do. For this reason I have put together a set of rules that any author or blogger can follow to manage a successful blog.

I’m guessing that if you are reading this post then you are probable going to be a fairly new blogger, looking to improve your blog and reach online success. Just remember that success means different things to different people so set your own goals that you aim to achieve.

Keep it consistent

There is no point in trying to run a successful blog if you are not updating it on a regular basis. By consistent I do not mean that you need to write and publish 10 posts a day, however at least three or four times a week. Failing to write on a regular basis will mean that you are not going to get any regular readers to your blog. By keeping it consistent you can slowly grow your blog each week and build it up week by week.

On the other hand by consistent, it is not just about the times that you publish content. It’s also about the way you write and structure your posts. When reading blog posts, reader like to know where the advice is coming from and whether they can trust it or not. You can do this by having an about me page, but also by writing in a consistent way and using a similar structure for your posts. You could also use the same style of images for all your posts to keep them professional.

put the work in

Too many bloggers these days are thinking that they can create a WordPress blog, write 5 posts and they are going to be an overnight success. A successful blog is going to take a huge amount of effort from you and a lot of dedication and a lot of people do not realize this until they have set up a small blog and are not making any money from it. You may not see the results instantly from putting a lot of work in but give it time and you will soon start to wreak the results in when people are wanting to guest write and advertise on your blog.

Patience is key

Many new bloggers soon learn that success us not as fast as they first thought it was and that it does not come instantly. A successful blog is going to take a long time to get somewhere. Especially if you are  on a new domain which has not been indexed by Google before. Furthermore no one is going to know about your blog at first and you are going to have minimal online exposure. Building up your blog is going to take a lot of patience and time but they are a lot of things that you can do to reduce the time your blog take to build up your blog, such as social networking and guest posting.

Social media

Your blog is going to get no promotion without you doing it yourself with social media such as Twitter and Facebook. There are the key to any blogs success and if you can dominate Twitter then you are going to get a lot of promotion and direct traffic coming from here. As well as this Twitter and Facebook also the perfect places to build up your online presence and network with other bloggers and important people in your niche. Networking in the right way with other bloggers could lead to them sharing your content and bringing you a load of new readers.

Be professional

People can instantly tell the difference between a professional blog where the work has been put in and a blog that has been set up just to make money online. Being professional can mean a lot of different things and I think that the most important part of being professional online is quality. Your blog needs to be quality all the way through, with everything from the design and layout to the content and title of articles.
