5 simple ways to increase productivity

When working online you can often spend long periods of time at a computer. This can become tiring and you can begin to lose productivity. I know that when I am working on WordPress I often spend a lot of wasted time on the dashboard instead of putting it to good use writing posts.

Furthermore many people want to be able to put their time to good use; especially when working on a blog or website. This is why i have put this post together with some of my favourite ways to increase your productivity whilst you are working online. Using all of these methods saves me a lot of time throughout the day and im sure that if you can stick to them, then you will be able to do the same.

Comfortable computing

It is going to be extremely difficult to get all the work done that you need if you do not have a comfortable computer to work at. If you like looking at a big screen then it can be worth investing in a larger or even a dual screen monitor. This will give you the larger view you need so that you can easily navigate your way around. I also find that what keyboard I use makes a big difference to how much i can type if i am writing a blog post. Your keyboard choice will probably be down to your personal preference. I prefer using a laptop with a big keyboard  over a desktop keyboard as i prefer not to have spaces in between the keys.

Layout is key

When talking about layout i am talking about your office or room setup as well as your desktop setup. Your office layout is particularly important if you are spending long amounts of time in there. If you need stuff like printers and phones etc then put them as close as possible to you so that you do not have to spend as much time getting up from what you are doing to go and use them and remember less time moving around means more work.

On the other hand putting TV’s close to where you are working can also be a bad idea. If you are like me then you may try to leave it on in the background whilst you work. I find this to be a big distraction and slows down my work-rate significantly .

Desktop layout is also very important i find and this is why I like to keep everything organized into folders with the correct names. If you just like to save all your files straight to your desktop and also not give them a proper name then it is going to take a lot of time to actually find what you are looking for. Time that can be spent writing content for your website.

Take breaks

You have probably heard this a lot but taking regular breaks does help. If you are planning on spending a long time writing a lengthy article then before you actually begin to write then break it down into sections where you plan on taking a break. This way you can come back to it with fresh ideas and your eyes will not be straining as you have spent all day staring at your computer screen. If you are itching to stop and check your emails when you are writing then decide at times when you are going to check your email and close the program so that it stops sending you notifications.

Enjoy what you do

There is no point trying to create a website on something you are not going to enjoy talking about. If you do not enjoy what you are talking about then im sure that you can not show your expertise in the subject, as well as this you are not going to enjoy what you are writing and you are probably going t write at the least quality possible so that you can finish and move on. You need to be passionate about what you are talking about to be able to write more than 10 posts and then run out of ideas.

Plan what you want to achieve each day

By planning what you want to get done each day you can simply tick them off one at a time until you have nothing else left to do. Creating a list of what you need to do makes it easy to accomplish these throughout the day without forgetting anything or having to take a moment to think about what is next. I like to use a desktop widget that I can put my notes on so that every time I return to the desktop I can clear see what else I need to do before today is over.
