Why blogging is the ultimate start-up business idea

Ask yourself this question….how many people do you know which have their own blog? The answer is probably at least one right?  Blogging, a term which has only become popular over the past decade or so, is now ingrained into our society. Companies have blogs, individuals have blogs, governments have blogs, in fact just about everyone is getting in on the act, so why don’t you? Typical reasons why people don’t start one are…

  • Don’t have time
  • Don’t know how to set one up
  • Don’t know what to blog about

Some of these are legitimate objections. If you are working full time why would you want to spend you free time sat in front on a computer? Well blogging can in fact help individuals to quit their 9 to 5 jobs and be self-sufficient. Let me say from the outset it is not easy to achieve this, it may take months of blogging part time before you become so successful you can give up your day job. However thousands have already succeeded so there is no reason why you cannot as well. So here are some of the great reasons why blogging is the ultimate start-up idea….

Low start up costs

When I say low, I mean virtually none. If you have a computer and an internet connection you do in fact have everything you need. You don’t need to register your own website address, although it might help you in the long run. Instead there are lots of free platforms which allow you to set up a site for free.

Low risk

Low start up costs means low risk. If it doesn’t work, the only thing you have lost is your own time. Also consider the fact that many people blog because it yields other non-financial benefits such as intellectual stimulation and engagement. It will allow you to improve your knowledge and interact with other bloggers. It can also help your current career as you can reference your blog when applying for jobs.

Flexible

The great thing about working on a blog is that you choose the amount of time you spend on it. If you do want it to be your main source of income then you can start off working around your current career. Yes this means working in the evenings and at weekends, often with no initial income but who said anything in life was easy? Your hardwork should be rewarded in the long term.

Networking opportunity

If you write enough good quality content you will attract interest from those surfing the web. Thus a blog can become a great networking tool for you to utilise to your own advantage. For example, say you want to get into one particular profession. By blogging about that profession and the stakeholders/companies contained within that profession you will demonstrate your own interest.

Above we have discussed just four of the main benefits of blogging as a means of starting a business, there are unquestionably many others.
