Workplaces with satisfied staff always seem to operate better, so if you’re an employee and feel that both morale and productivity levels could be improved, perhaps it’s a good time to make a few changes to improve your business performance. The more engaged with work your staff are, the more likely they are to remain focussed and positive about their role. Work is better for everyone when it acts as more than a simple means to an end. Workplaces staffed by disgruntled team members are never likely to achieve as much as they possibly can, so if you feel that your team are underperforming it may be a good idea to ask them how they feel about working for you.

The Value of Feedback

A staff survey can a valuable tool in finding out what your staff’s relationship with work is. Do they feel appreciated? Do they feel valued? Do they feel that the work that they do makes a significant difference. Staff surveys don’t take long to conduct but they can give you a remarkable insight into the state of your team morale. Sometimes staff can feel as if their past experiences and valued skills aren’t being acknowledged, which can make them feel very downhearted about work. If their CV shows something that could be of use but isn’t being taken advantage of, why not see if there is a way that skill could be utilised? You may also find that asking them to use skills they haven’t been able to bring to the table before saves you money on outsourcing a task or employing someone new.

Don’t Let the Rot Set In

When staff feel that they aren’t being listened to, it’s hardly surprising that their attitude towards work can be diluted. Just asking them to fill in a staff engagement survey can help them to feel valued. Why not use the survey to ask them if they are happy in their current role or if there are other tasks they feel they could help you with. If you can find a compromise between what they want to do and what your business needs them to do in order for it to survive, the results could be extraordinary. Why not ask them if they feel they have been given the chance to develop new skills?

Rewarding Effort and Achievement

The longer you go without effective, 2-way communication, the worse morale can become. Staff must feel able to approach you with any problems they might have, whether they are finding a task too difficult or simply aren’t inspired by it anymore. Again, an engagement survey can help you here too. Employment engagement surveys can play a pivotal role in unearthing why your staff and business aren’t performing as well as you think they could be. Rewarding achievement and effort is essential if your business is to be a success. The longer you go without showing your appreciation for your staff’s efforts, the more unhappy they are likely to become. A better work culture can result when staff feel that their efforts are rewarded.
