Giving Your Startup The Space It Needs

Everybody has their own style of working. Some thrive on a scene of organised chaos around them, having almost everything to hand with only them really knowing where; these are usually the people that cannot work well as a team, as it shows a sort of selfish way of working. If only you know how to access the tools, materials and papers to solve a problem, there is no room to invite others who are willing to help you work on something. An arguably better space for working is that which offers a switch-off from what you’ve been doing and a switch-on for what you’re going to get stuck into.

Get A Good Designer

You don’t necessarily need a designer for a good office work space, but it certainly helps. Ozoneinteriors.com is a great example of a site that you can go to to get some inspiration if nothing else; they are able to take note of the dimensions of the space that you have got to work with and create you the office of your dreams. Good lighting is essential in an office – both natural and artificial – so that there is always enough light to be able to see how to work, but not so that you’re in a completely closed environment for the whole day. Open-plan offices are recommended with startups due to the collaborations and suggestions that are being pinged across the room all day. They’re necessary for a positive journey to success. Designing your office isn’t just like designing your house – there are certain tips and tricks to getting it to being a viable, workable space.

Get Rid Of Distractions

There are quite a few distractions in the office which can take away from the focus that your workplace needs. When you are a startup, there is a certain amount of concentration that needs to be put in on a daily basis which doesn’t allow the flexibility for your mind to wander. In order to succeed, you need to get rid of the distractions which may be taking your mind away from more valuable things. If you have the space for separate areas, such as a break area and kitchen area, make sure that they are far away from the space that you have designated for people to do their work in. Talking between employees seems harmless enough, but there needs to be some form of barrier put up between work and play within the office. Don’t be tempted to give in to fads like office animals or ball-pits (yes, really) unless you have really thought them through and looked at both the positives and the negatives to each thing. Whilst it may seem like something that attracts potential employees for the thrill factor, think about what they need to be able to see in your company that is good for the long run. It’s all well and good putting in perks, but you need to assess whether they are better for your business or for your employees.

Ask For Feedback

If you have employees, they may have their own wants and ideas for a space that is reflective of what they need to be able to work in. Hot desking is currently a trend in business as lots of companies have remote workers who only come into the office a couple of times a week, so making your office space flexible for them to be able to dip in and out as they please in regards to their working life can be a great thing for both them and your business. What you want is the best that your employees can offer you; you need to be able to listen to them and take note of their suggestions, as they will know how they are prone to working – but for those who are unsure of their working types, a gentle nudge in the right direction will help.

Constantly Look For Improvements

Just because you have designed your office and had it put in place doesn’t mean that there aren’t constant improvements that will need to be made to it. As your business grows and expands, you may find that you have changing requirements for your office space. There may be more room that is needed to be taken up for business meetings, separate areas for those who are working on different projects to gain more focus and, eventually, you may just be requiring more room to take on more employees should your company be growing at that rate.
