There’s a very distinct correlation between productive employees and a profitable business. If your staff members are working hard then they’re likely to be making more money for your company. Even if they’re not directly involved in sales or marketing. The harder your team work in all aspects of the business, the more profits you’re going to see. The difficulty is making sure your employees are productive at all times. In order to help your business become more profitable, here are some top tips for employee productivity.

Praise, Not Punish

This is a core rule that many people are taught throughout their lives. It works with every human being, from a baby to an adult. If you spend most of your time telling staff off for not being productive, they’re going to rebel. They’re not going to bother, as all that happens is they get into trouble. It’s simple psychology. However, if you reward good behaviour then you’ll see a big difference. Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reprimand staff members who are always breaking the rules. But it does mean you should be rewarding those who are working hard. Others will see the rewards their team members are getting and work on delivering the same results. It could be anything from shopping vouchers to a holiday, whatever your budget can stretch to. Put reward schemes in place and watch your productivity levels rise.

Communication

This is another fundamental rule that business owners should put into place. Communicating with your staff will ensure they’re far more productive and profitable. They should know that their input is valued and that you care about what they have to say. It’s also an amazing tactic for a smoother running business. You can put up notice boards in the staff room, to communicate targets or information. You should also have a way for employees to send in their ideas. Whether that’s by posting them in a comments box or sending an email. Send out regular communications to your staff members and surveys that ask for their opinion. Feeling valued is an important part of any enjoyable job. Staff who enjoy their job more, will be more productive. Which means more profits for you.

Working Environment

It’s a known fact that your working environment can play a big part in how productive you are. Those who are happy in the workplace will work a lot harder and take less time off. If you have an office that’s rundown then don’t be surprised if your staff get rundown too. Old furniture, worn out carpets and peeling paint don’t make for the most pleasant of working environments. You don’t have to spend a fortune on revamping the entire workplace. Just make sure that any tired areas are given a freshen up. You may also want to invest in ergonomic chairs and new desks, to ensure your employees are more comfortable at work. This will also stop work-related illnesses and injuries, which lead to time off.

These may all seem so simple, but they can have a significant impact on employee productivity. A few small changes to how you work with your staff can be all it takes to bring in more profit.
