How To Turn Blogging Into A Full-Time Business

It’s no secret that there are millions of blogs online these days. One can set up a new blog and get up and running within a matter of minutes. And with blogging platforms like WordPress and Google’s Blogger, publishing new posts is a cinch.

Some people have blogs because they just want a chance to get heard about a particular subject. Whereas others write because they want to talk about the latest issues in our world. And many people even make a passive income through their love of writing online.

How fast is your site?

The first thing you need to do is ensure that your site is running as quick as possible. A website that is hosted on a slow server will annoy your visitors and make a significant impact on your revenue.

If your host is slow and often has downtime, it’s time to move to a better one. The good news is there are thousands of firms out there that offer good quality, reliable and fast hosting services. Just be sure to do some research before you switch over. After all; the last thing you want to do is move to another host that offers a poor service!

Make sure your site is responsive

The next step involves checking your blog’s usability. OK, so it might look brilliant on a desktop or laptop computer screen. But how well does it work on a smartphone? If the answer is “poorly” you need to change your blog’s theme for a responsive one.

In a nutshell, a responsive site is where the layout of a website adapts to different devices and screen resolutions “on the fly.”

Make your business official

It doesn’t matter whether you go down the self-employed route or decide to become incorporated. What does matter is that you notify your local tax authorities of your intentions to run a business.

Set up a dedicated workstation

You then need to have a decent computer system at your disposal. Aside from that, I recommend investing in a good quality printer from somewhere like Ricoh London. That’s because you’ll need to print stuff out for research purposes. And you’ll also need to print out invoices for your business records.

Consider buying two or more displays

You might think it overkill. But having two or more computer displays will increase your productivity! For example, one display can have your blog site on it. Another can get used for researching your articles. And so forth.

The price of computer displays is so cheap these days that it makes sense to do that. Don’t forget that you can offset the cost of those displays against your tax!
