Working from home is becoming increasingly common here in the UK. However, to work from home effectively the right environment is needed and creating a home office is the ideal way to do this. Here are the top five things you need to consider when preparing your own home working space.

Space

If you’re given the opportunity to work from home, it might sound tempting to do so sitting on the sofa, or even lying in bed. However, this won’t do your productivity any good whatsoever and it’s important to have a dedicated space set aside for work.

Working from home is only possible if you have a fast and reliable broadband connection. This will allow you to stay in touch with colleagues via email and instant message, download relevant files and remotely access company systems among other things. Provided you have a good broadband service, working from home allows you to be every bit as connected as being in the office.

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you should overlook the health and safety factors that apply in the office. Your workspace needs to be set up in a way that won’t damage your health and things such as lighting, the height of your chair and desk and leg room all need to be considered.
