What Your Office Absolutely Needs To Keep Employees Happy And Engaged

If you have an office, you better believe it’s just as big a part of the business as the employees inside it. The environment impacts the people who use it. A bad environment can make people unproductive, less motivated and even stressed. So naturally, making all the right choices with that environment can have the opposite effect. Here are some of the choices that are going to help your business really thrive.

Cleanliness

A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mindset. That’s an idea that has resoundingly proven true in workspaces throughout the world. We like to keep our desks clean and organised, so naturally the same has to be said of the office. Not only is a cluttered office harder to use and find important materials in. A dirty office can be damaging to morale as well as bad for hygiene. Consider professional office cleaning and make sure everyone in the office does their part.

Lighting

As you might expect, the same rule for dirty spaces applies to poorly lit spaces. Bad lighting is bad for motivation entirely. Similarly, those buzzing clinically cold lights can be just as much of a production killer. You need to introduce as much natural light into the workplace as possible. Poor lighting also leads to significantly increased risks of eyestrain.

Movement

It’s not so much a part of the office as it is the office culture. But employers should be doing their best to promote more movement with their staff. It might go as far as giving them mandatory breaks from their desks. Otherwise, it could mean giving them different tasks using different spaces. One of the biggest killers is high blood pressure which is directly caused by inactivity that’s common in modern offices.

Options

We’ve already mentioned that you should give your employees the chance to use different spaces around the office. Thinking outside of the box and their box-like cubicles has other benefits as well, of course. Those spaces can offer them the privacy they need to be productive at times. But there should be other spaces in the office, like conference rooms and more casual spaces. This way their surroundings can better adapt to their needs at the time.

Comfort

Regardless of where it is in the office that they need to work, their comfort is important. Not just to keep them happy, but to keep them healthy. True comfort is about using furniture and keeping posture that takes stress off of them. Back pain and repetitive strain injury are the most common results of poor posture. Make sure the furniture in your office fights against these risks.

Décor

The physical and emotional health of the team can be directly influenced by their surroundings. But so can their respect for both their jobs and the business. Two factors that play an important role in how motivated they are. So you need to think about how your business looks. Cleanliness is just one aspect of it. What kind of décor fits the branding and the office culture you want?
