Your Essential Startup Business Team

If you are planning to take an executive route into your startup, and want to do things by the book, there are certain positions that you will need to make and get filled. Not all of them need filling at once; it may be that you need to get to a certain turnover before considering taking on another person. It’s just when you get to the point of being able to employ those who can only benefit your business, you need to ensure that you are doing so with profit in mind – they need to be pulling their weight. It helps to know the ins and outs of each role and what is expected of each person. It also helps knowing where to find them.

Management

If in the beginning it’s just you, then you will need to manage your own time and workings. It’s only when things start to develop that you have to consider managing other people. This may become too much of a time-consumer for you; you need to think about revenue-generating jobs rather than tasking other people to do the work for you, wasting valuable time on your behalf. Rather than the cost-effective way of doing it all by yourself, there comes a time when you need to hand over responsibility to somebody else. The most important thing that you need to think about here is family and friends; it may be nice creating a role for them, or getting them in to fill a vacancy thinking that you’re doing them a favour, but hindsight might provide a much clearer picture for you. Rather than nepotism, you need to give your role the person that it deserves – someone who can stand up to the demands of it and give everything plus a bit more back to your company.

Legal Team

Every company needs a legal team – especially in this day and age, where the sue culture is becoming the norm. Instead of trying to look for them yourself, get a legal search firm on board to ensure that you are enlisting the right people for the job. If you have had no background in law, it can be hard to know what qualities to look for in potential candidate. The good thing about legal search firms is that they have a record of everybody who they know would be perfect for the role that you have got, and simply match them up.

Finances

It may seem like the done thing to manage your own finances when your startup is in its early days, but as you start to get more successful – and other things prioritise your demands – it will become clear that you may need to bring in extra help. Outsourcing is a good option for this, as accountants can always be recommended or found online, and can relieve a lot of unneeded stress and worry. It’s also a lot of paperwork that would otherwise be taking up room within your office. Free the space for other things.
