6 Reasons why your new WordPress blog is not going to be successful

Every now and then i like to spend time on the Your WordPress section of the WordPress forums. I spend time taking a look at people’s new blogs and trying to help them improve their blog. However time and time again i see the same mistakes again that are causing people to wonder why their WordPress blog is not going to be successful and why they will not make money online.

WordPress blogging is not hard, as long as you get it right and this is where most people are going wrong. I know what it is like, when I fist set up my WordPress blog and had little experience in making money online, let a lone setting up my own website. However it took me a long time to learn how to do it right and this is why I am going to tell people what they need to do today, instead of you realizing months down the line why your blog is not going anywhere.

You are not social networking

When first starting a WordPress blog many people do not bother to social network at the start. However this not the right way to go. For more i get a huge percentage of my traffic from Twitter and Facebook and they are key for my blog. Furthermore as well as traffic you can also use them to begin to build a community around your blog. Allowing people to easily follow you and keep up to date with your latest posts. Without social networks you are going to have very slow blog growth.

Furthermore it is key to integrate social networks into your WordPress blog. I Find there are two effective ways to do this. The first is to add social sharing buttons at the bottom of a post so that people can easily share your content with social networks. The second is to add links to your Twitter, Facebook and even Google+ accounts in your sidebar. Here people can easily follow you directly from your blog.

Your Page Rank is too low

When you buy your domain for your WordPress blog then you are probably going to have a Page Rank of 0, however you are still going to expect search engine traffic. Well this is not going to happen. In order to get a good amount of search engine traffic then you are going to need a good Page Rank. Luckily your Page Rank can easily improved if you have the time to work on this.

  • First you need to build backlinks to your website. The more incoming links, the better. However avoid illegal link building methods like buying backlinks. Instead concentrate on guest posting on high authority websites in your niche and put a link back to your website in the post.
  • Make sure that your website is search engine optimized for Google so that you get as much traffic as possible, a blog with more traffic deserves a higher Page Rank in the eyes of Google.
  • Internal link building is also very important for your Page Rank. Make sure to always internal link in every post that you write to make it as easy as possible for Google to find its way around your website.

Your Content is not up to scratch

Good content is key to running a successful WordPress blog. No one is going to visit your website if it is not providing them with useful or interesting content. Time and time again people set up a WordPress blog just so they can make money online so write small low quality posts that no one is going to read. You are going to be a lot more successful is you write high quality and useful posts that people are going to share.

Furthermore the amount of content is also important. If you update your blog once a month then i cannot see you building a community around your blog. Maintaining a WordPress blog can be a big commitment and it is a good idea to post at least three times a week to ensure that your readers have enough posts to keep them interested.

Your Website design is awful

When first starting a WordPress blog, many people just use the first free theme that they can find and expect that to do them good. However this is one of the biggest mistakes made by new bloggers. The design of your blog is nearly as important as the content. If you are going to use a free theme then make sure you spend some time looking around for one that is responsive and works with your blog. However I do  recommend going onto ThemeForest and buying a premium theme. I made this mistake at first and went through a lot of free themes before I eventually got a premium theme.

You have not given your blog enough time

Your WordPress blog is not going to be an instant success overnight. It can take a lot time before you actually start seeing results (potentially up to a year) It took me about 10 months before I actually started seeing results from my blog. Many people will give up and leave their blog if it has not had any success after a month. Well of course you are not going to be successful in a month. It takes a lot of time and dedication before you have a successful blog. However do not give up. Try everything you can to make your blog work.

You do not have a top-level domain

Time and time again I see these. People setting up their blog without investing any money into a top-level .com or .co.uk domain. You can obviously not be very serious about blogging if you are not willing to buy a domain and people will see this and this will put them off clicking on your website in search results. Furthermore many people do not but their own hosting either and choose WordPress.com blogs. I would not recommend this and instead it is well worth buying your own hosting and domain, especially with how affordable they are these days.

Final notes

A WordPress blog can bring you great success if you do it right. The problem is knowing how to do it right and being able to put this into action. Traffic is key to a successful WordPress blog and without this you are not going anywhere. However remember that it takes time and dedication (as well as investment) to run a successful blog.
