A List of the Most Effective Security Measures You Can Take to Protect Your Business Property

Security has always been a big concern for businesses, and if you have a business that contains stocks or inventory or simply has a lot of physical assets inside its premises, you will have to ensure that it is properly secured and protected. But even more than this is the security of your personnel and staff – you want to make sure that they are protected as soon as they enter your business or commercial property, particularly if you have staff who work at odd hours or at night. But whilst there are different ways through which you can enhance security, there are some measures which will always be a given and which have proven better than most. Here, then, is a list of the most effective security measures you can take to protect your business property.

  • Do an assessment of risk

The first thing you should do is perform a risk assessment for your property. Find out if there are any weak points and talk to your staff about any security concerns they may have. Go through your property and identify your access points; are they all secure and protected? It would also be a good idea to seek advice from professionals to find out what you can do to improve security.

  • Strengthen and enhance your access points

You need to find out the different ways of getting into your business property so you can determine how much security these points need. Think about the different avenues that burglars or intruders may use to gain access to your property and take measures according to your assessment. You may have to install windows and doors which are stronger and more solid and make your entry points more secure with security guards and access control measures such as biometric cards and key cards, visitor passes, and the like.

  • Protect the perimeter

When it comes to external protection, specifically protection for the perimeter of your property, you may be able to deter burglars or intruders by showing them how well-guarded your property is – and you can do this with the proper lighting for your perimeter, the right fencing, and a secure parking lot or area.

  • Install alarms and CCTV

For more businesses, CCTV and alarm systems are already a given, a fact confirmed by none other than security Oxford experts like Securipol. If this isn’t the case with your business, make it so. If you have a well-placed CCTV system, you can deter potential intruders and criminals, but even if they manage to enter your property, you can still try to identify them and recover what you have lost in case there is a break-in.

  • Perform checks regularly

Once you have a more robust security system and security measures in place, it would be in your best interest to perform checks regularly. This way, you can find out if there are any faults in the security system and repair them as promptly as possible. The same is true for repairing breakages in windows, doors, and the roof, and you should also remind your staff when it comes to safety processes and procedures and making reports of prospective threats.
