Moving To Your First Office? Here’s What You Need To Do

Moving to your first office is a huge step for any startup. It’s a sign that your business is up and running, and gives you a more professional sheen. However, it isn’t just as simple as turning up and getting started. In this guide, we’re going to go through all you need to think about in the build up to your big move.

Make a plan

Without a plan in place, you run the risk of forgetting something important. Do this a good few weeks in advance, or even earlier if you can. Give yourself enough of a time frame to allow you to prepare for the move without affecting your business operations.

Talk to services

Get in touch with moving companies and energy firms as early as you possibly can. Removal experts tend to get booked up early if they are good at what they do, so get on that phone and reserve your day of choice. Let your energy services know about your move at least a week before your move to ensure everything is working in your new space.

Create a moving team

If you have any employees, assign them tasks for the big day. If you are a one-person band that works from home, then get as much help as you possibly can from family and friends. The earlier you let people know, the easier it will be for them to free up their personal time.

Arrange cleaning and decor

Although your office should be clean before you move in, it’s best not to rely on anybody else. Once you start moving in large desks and other bits of furniture, it will be difficult to clean properly. So, it’s best to get things done before you get there. Find a commercial carpet cleaning service and a professional cleaner, and also inspect the office in case you need a new coat of paint. It’s all about professionalism and getting off to the best possible start to the next stage of your business’s life.

Get packing

Next, it’s time to start packing. Begin with the things you don’t often use, such as old files and records, artwork for the walls, or unused and new equipment. Also, think about cups and glasses for the canteen area – you might even want some fruit bowls in your new space to promote healthy eating.

Check for parking issues

Make sure that you find out any parking restrictions around your new office. If the removal company parks illegally, they may well charge you for their ticket. It’s an avoidable cost – and only takes a few minutes of your time. You should also call other businesses in the area to let them know you are coming. It’s a good way to say hello to your new neighbours, and will help diffuse any potential flare-ups if your removal van ends up blocking an entrance.

Move quickly

Now, you can make your move. Try and get everything moved in one day, so it minimises the impact on your business. Make sure that all of your essential services such as WiFi are set up and ready to go on the morning of your move. And finally, enjoy your new premises! We wish you the best of success in your new office space!
