Weebly: Free vs Pro

Many people have heard of Weebly before. Weebly is an online website builder which lets you visually create a website with no coding required. Weebly uses a simple drag and drop interface which lets you customize lots of different aspects of your website. However for some people the Free version may not give them all they want and many upgrade to a pro account.

Footer

In Weebly if you are using a free account then you website will always have a footer saying that your website was created with Weebly. For many people who are creating there own personal website or blog then this is fine ans will not really make much difference if it is there or not. On the other hand if you are creating a business website then this could make your website look unprofessional as it shows you have not spent money on web hosting. We recommend using a premium account for business websites but for personal websites then free may be a better option.

Password Protected pages

When using Weebly there is no option in the free edition to password protect pages. But in the Pro edition there is. The password protection can stop unwanted visitors from viewing your whole site or just individual pages. This is great for personal websites but not really suited to anything else.

Audio & Video player

in the free edition you do not get the option to use the audio or the video player on your website. On the Pro edition you can which is a nice added feature. However we would much rather embed youtube videos instead as it can be easily customized and saves bandwidth.

Startup todayThere are many other features in the Pro edition including more web space and up to 10 websites which you can create. Ultimately the choice is yours and it depends on the type of website you want to build. For a more customized and proffesional site we would recommend WordPress but Weebly is great if you do not have much website building experience.
