5 Secrets For Coffee Shop Success

In the UK, coffee is the number one break time beverage; almost 70 percent of us drink at least one coffee each day. Because of this, every year there are thousands of new coffee shops opening on our streets, and yours could be next.

Don’t let the fact that there is a lot of competition in the coffee shop industry put you off of launching a cafe of your own. While your business will have a lot of competition, if you think outside the box and put a twist on your startup, you could be the next Starbucks.

To give your startup the boost it needs, we have put together a guide to five secrets to coffee shop success:

  1. Location is everything

If you want a coffee shop that thrives, the location is the most important thing. Of course, what you serve matters too – we’ll get to that later, but where your cafe is located is one of the most crucial factors.

Open a coffee shop between two already established coffee houses and you have little chance of success. However, pick a street that is lacking a coffee shop, and your chances of building a prosperous business will triple. Obviously, it’s also important that wherever your cafe is there needs to be a steady flow of traffic.

  1. Sell and serve good-quality coffee

The second most important factor is the coffee that you serve. You don’t want to get a bad name for yourself for selling low-quality coffee, as it will stick. That’s why, it’s crucial that you serve and sell the highest quality coffee.

This means taking your time when choosing the beans – you will find plenty of advice online about this. As well as ensuring that you have the best quality espresso machines, to make the coffee with. It’s also worth making sure that any members of the team who serve coffee are barista trained.

  1. Don’t overcharge

Far too often we end up paying over £3 for a cup of coffee – this is too much. If you overcharge, you will find that building up your business will take a lot longer.

However, if you start off asking for fair prices, you will find that you business is much more popular. Obviously, as you become more successful, you can consider upping your charges if you want to.

  1. Go down the homemade route

If you intend on serving any snacks – cakes and biscuits, or light lunches, it’s worthwhile going down the homemade route. So many companies have their food brought in, if you want to stand out, make what you serve yourself.

Going down the homemade route might make things a little more stressful to start off with. However, by making your cakes and sandwiches yourself, you’ll have a higher chance of success. Buy your bread from a local bakery but make the sandwich fillings yourself. Bake the cakes on the premises, using local ingredients wherever possible.

  1. Run deals and discounts

One of the best ways to get more people into your coffee shop is by running deals and discounts. Consider running a deal a couple of times a week and advertising it in your local newspaper – this should help to boost your customer base. Or, use your website – having a website is an absolute must, to run various deals.

Coffee is one of the UK’s favourite drinks, so starting a coffee shop is a fantastic startup idea. To guarantee that your new venture is a success, take note of the useful tips and ideas, above.
