Setting Up Your Office

When setting up your new office, there are many things to consider – both practical and aesthetic. This space need to be somewhere where your workers feel happy to be in, where everyone is comfortable and where work will be carried out to maximum efficiency. These things come hand in hand; a happy worker is more likely to give you their 100%, and a space that encourages comfort and interaction will produce more creative thinking.

With the average person spending over 35% of their waking hours at work, the environment that you create is as important in regard to your employees, as it is to increasing your profit margin.

1| Location, location, location

Finding the right site for your office is the most important thing – there are many boxes to tick while remaining within your budget. The most important are;

The area.

Is the neighbourhood a good one with a good reputation? Can you hear a construction site next door, or a school across the road? Noise distractions can be detrimental. Are there any similar businesses nearby that could cause competition?

The size.

Is it big enough to house your employees and all the necessary equipment your business needs? Everyone cramped together won’t be a happy workplace, and having everyone scattered about won’t promote communication and collaboration. Think about possible expansion, but focus on what you have and how to best accommodate them.


Are there nearby public transport links? Is there ample parking space for employees and clients? If it’s in the middle of nowhere then you are severely limiting your prospective hires.

2| Feng Shui

The layout of your office is important – whether you hold with the idea of flowing energy or not, the positioning of the equipment and amenities are important. If you have different departments, then keep those people together, but perhaps an open layout where marketing sits next to graphic design would be a way to encourage creative collaboration.

Try and have an area for relaxing or a kitchen that isn’t too far away from the main work body. This promotes the idea of eating on-site rather than leaving for lunch, and it also allows workers to take a minute when they need it.

A smaller office space doesn’t have to be a bad thing, and it can help you to keep on top of things like cleanliness and personal. By promoting good habits such as keeping work areas clean and tidy, a smaller workspace can be perfect, particularly for a new business.

3| Gear Up

The right equipment is as important as hiring the right people. Business is run through technology now, so it only makes sense that this is an area to invest in. Compare Asset management Software and find the right programs for you and your business.

Saving money in this area isn’t the best idea, you want your computers and software to be the best and to last. Getting the cheaper option early on means that you’ll have to replace it sooner.
