Three Top Tips for Burglar Proofing Your Business

Theft and burglary are constant worries for the savvy business owner. It may seem an affront to think that anyone would take what is rightfully yours, yet we all know that it happens. Where there is money to be made, there are also opportunists, ever ready to strike and take what is yours for their own.

This means that security is something that every start-up owner ought to take very seriously. There is no such thing as being too careful, and only the very best deterrents will scare away would-be burglars.

If you’re looking for some tips to protect your premises, here are three to get you started.

Invest in Exterior Locks

Although a skilled professional can break almost any lock, it’s still well worth your time to invest in them. If they don’t act as a failsafe barrier to keep burglars out, at the very least they’re a wonderful deterrent. Locks take a long time to break, and those placed on the exterior of your premises are very visible. Most experienced thieves will not chance breaking them whilst stood in clear view of neighbouring homes and businesses and busy roads, as it simply isn’t worth the risk of being caught before they’ve even entered the building.

Install an Alarm System

Like locks, alarms are not enough to keep burglars out, but they’re just one more way to deter them. Most thieves will balk from breaking into buildings with a clearly visible alarm system, as the risk of being caught in the act when they go off is something they don’t wish to chance. Those that feature cameras as part of their setup are even better, as they pose the added threat of their image being captured, which could lead to prosecution at a later date.

If you are going to invest in an alarm system, be sure to choose one that sends a message to your phone when it goes off, as most people passing by will ignore them when they ring, assuming that they’re simply faulty.

Hire a Security Team

If you can afford to, the very best way to deter thieves is to hire a security team to protect your premises. Burglars don’t want to be caught, so they will always look for buildings that promise to be an easy target. Any premises with a visible presence fall outside of this criteria, and that makes them very unlikely to be broken into.
