Security A New Business Direly Needs

As soon as your business is set up and starts becoming successful, it’s under threat. If you work from an office, you could be targeted by thieves. If work from home, you can still be attacked online. If your new business is hit by a crime in the first year on the market, it could cripple your chances of success. So, how do you prevent this? We think there are two types of security that you should be investing in from the word go.

Physical Security

When you think about setting up physical security measures around your office or your home, there should be no such thing as overkill. The more security you can put in place, the better. First, when you choose your office property, you should already be making security a top priority. You should be looking for premises with a good lighting and strong doors. The building should look as though it would be difficult to break into even before you start to upgrade it.

When looking at upgrades we suggest you invest in a good CCTV system. The latest systems offer a complete view of the area so you won’t have to worry about potential blind spots. There should be a camera monitoring each entrance and exit to the building. If you set up CCTV in your home remember, there are laws that prohibit the use of CCTV if it records someone else’s property. You’ll have to speak to your council about this.

Aside from that, you should also be looking into measures such as ID scanners and alarm systems. Mono Alarms come highly recommended when thinking about what company to use to set up your security system. They will offer a professional service and regularly maintain your devices.

The last thing you may want to think about is hiring guards for the premises. This will act as a deterrence more than anything else. It’s one thing for a thief to attempt to beat a system, but quite another to try getting past human security.

Online Security

If you are working from home, this will be the type of security that is most important to you. But any company can be targeted by hackers these days. If you want to protect your business, you must be aware of this possibility and put measures in place to prevent it. We would start by making sure you have strong passwords and encryptions on all your important and sensitive files. You should take particular care of information that belongs to customers. If you lose this, it could damage your reputation and thus your business prospects.

Of course, passwords and files are not usually enough to stop hackers. But it will slow them down. You also need to invest in the latest antivirus software. Hackers often user trojan viruses to break into a computer system and then clone the data. It’s a very advanced method of hacking and often slips past anti-virus programmes. They use what are essentially backdoors into your system.

That’s why we also recommend you look into hiring an IT support company. They’ll watch out for these issues on your network, alert you and deal with the issue before it causes a problem.

If you take this advice on board, you can protect your business from the criminals looking to take it down.
