What You Need to Consider When Choosing Your First Office

When you start a new business, you need to pick out your first office space. This might not be as easy and straightforward as you might imagine though. Here are all the things you need to consider before making a decision.

Location

The location of your office is one of the most vital consideration to make for your entrepreneurs. It’s all about striking the right balance between cost and suitability. If you need to pick up customers who are passing by, you should think about finding an office in the city. You should attend auctions for commercial property to find city office bargains.

If you don’t need to be in the city though, you shouldn’t buy an office there. You will be spending more money than you need to. It’s usually much cheaper to find an office in an area outside of the city. There are plenty of business complexes in good locations outside of the towns and cities available at low prices.

Your Working Habits

Every business has different working habits that need to be taken into consideration. Some businesses have their employees glued to their desks all day. For those kinds of businesses, a regimented office divided up into rows and rows of desks is a perfectly sensible route to take.

But if your business is more focused on collaboration and teamwork in the office, this would not be the best option for you. You will need more open, relaxed spaces in which people can discuss and share ideas. And your office space needs to be able to adapt to this kind of working method for you.

Meeting Spaces

When young entrepreneurs pick out new office spaces, one thing they often forget about is meeting spaces. They focus on the office floor and forget about the rest. But meeting spaces can be just as important when you’re working with important clients on a day to day basis. So, closed off spaces are essential.

Ideally, your office will have a number of enclosed meeting rooms that are big enough to hold big meetings and conduct presentations. You should also think about creating rest spaces for employees so that they can take breaks away from their desks throughout the day. This can actually boost productivity rather than hurt it.

Personalisation

Your workspace needs to be specific to your business. Of course, your office will start out as a blank canvas, but it has to be adaptable for your business. Most offices should offer this possibility, but not all of them do. They might be designed in a way that makes changing things around difficult.

For example, if you move into an office that’s fully furnished, making changes and personalising the office is much more difficult. If you rent a furnished office, you might even be allowed to make major changes to the office. So, I’d recommend that startups rent a blank canvas and make it their own.

Moving into an office is the moment when your new business starts to feel more real, so it’s important to make the right choice.
