5 Ways to use Tumblr to Grow your Online Business

Most businesses now have a Facebook presence, if not Twitter and Pinterest. Yet one network that should not be overlooked is Tumblr. This blogging platform has been around since 2007. Over the past few years it has really taken off not only as a location for bloggers, but also as a social network based around visual media.

In terms of user time spent on Tumblr, the platform ranks second only to Facebook. Tumblr content is also visible to all internet users, rather than requiring you to sign up to view its websites. If you’re about to create a business website, you may want to think about how to integrate this with Tumblr to grow your business.

Post Frequently

The first order of business to get started with using Tumblr is to create an account and corresponding blog. You’ll rank higher in the search engine and start building up a network of followers if you post worthwhile content on a regular basis. Unlike WordPress or other web hosting solutions for blogs, Tumblr is more set up for short posts using multimedia. If you want to post long essays, this isn’t the place. One of the best ways to get a feel for the network is to view other blogs that are similar to your business, and see the type of content they post. Photos, videos, and brief tips or observations are all fair game.

Interact with Other Users

Tumblr is meant to be highly interactive, which is where it crosses over from blogging platform to social network. Just as you would respond to comments on your business’s Facebook profile, you can also comment, like, and follow other Tumblr posts. You can also reblog posts that you enjoy, instantly helping you to boost your own content level.

Get Creative with Tags

In addition to following other blogs and reblogging posts that you enjoy, another way to grow your audience on Tumblr is through the use of tags. Tags are how Tumblr users discover new posts of interest. You can track tags that pertain to your business and use them to locate users that might be interested in what you have to offer. Each of your posts can also be marked with tags that correspond to what your potential clients might be searching for.

Use a Variety of Posting Tools

Tumblr has a mobile app that can be installed on your smartphone or tablet, making it easy to share information when you’re on the go. Users can also integrate their Tumblr account with their Instagram account, allowing them to post photos to both networks. If you already use Instagram to post photos of your products or business, this can easily be added to your Tumblr account. Tumblr posts can also be set up to appear directly in your Facebook Timeline feed.

 Monitor Traffic

By using Google Analytics to monitor the traffic to your Tumblr blog, you can see which resources or search engines are referring visitors. This allows you to fine-tune your approach to lure in more visitors by seeing what works and what is wasting time.

Tumblr is not the first social network that many businesses think of when they are exploring social media marketing. Yet with its growing popularity and ease of use, it’s worth integrating with your other marketing efforts.
