How Much Attention Do You Pay to Business Fence Security?

The chances are your property is surrounded by a border of some kind. For many people this means a fence, and if you have a fence in place it is well worth considering how secure it is. If you want to deter thieves you should make sure it is as good as possible.

Fences come in all shapes, sizes, heights and styles. However, few people choose a fence with an eye on how off putting it will be to a potential burglar. This is understandable – after all you want to be sure you can provide a good and attractive garden feature. The last thing you will think of is someone climbing over it to access your property or someone else’s.

However it is well worth keeping this in mind when you do put up a fence. For starters it is wise to go as high as is legally possible to deter people from climbing over it. A half height fence would be easy for most people to get over, whereas a six foot high panel would present a challenge to many people, especially those who were not particularly limber.

But what else can you do to make sure your garden is not seen as an easy target for accessing one or more properties?

Well, you no doubt have plans to grow lots of plants and shrubs in your garden, so how about thinking of adding a few prickly ones to the mix as well? There are plenty of prickly bushes and plants you can choose from. Roses are one of the most familiar to us all, and you can get climbing roses as well as ones that form bush shapes lower down to the ground. Climbers are wonderful because you can train them to grow up your fence and provide a nasty surprise if anyone happens to be trying to access your garden from the other side of the fence.

You might think the height of the fence is the only thing you need to worry about with regard to fence security. However, the actual composition of the fence is well worth thinking about as well. For example, we are all familiar with the average six foot fence panel made from horizontal wooden slats held together by a frame. But you can also get panels of the same size that are actually designed as a trellis. These are great if you like your neighbours and you want to have a fence but you would like to be able to speak to them as well. Trellis is perfect for this and it also provides a much higher degree of security in the garden.

If a fence panel is strong enough and secured properly between two posts, it is reasonably easy to climb over it. However, if it is made from trellis it is strong enough as it stands, but it won’t take the weight of a burglar who sees it as an opportunity to climb over. Imagine them breaking it and falling – this would hardly go unnoticed as they are likely to make a lot of noise. It would act as the perfect deterrent as well as providing a great chance to make sure you and your neighbour’s gardens remained off limits to potential thieves.
