HOW TO:Backup your WordPress blog to Google Drive
With the amount of Websites getting hacked into lately it is essential to keep your website backed up. Fortunately Google Drive was released not to long ago and offers 5GB of storage for free so I thought this would be the perfect way to back-up my blog. I did not know how i was going to do this until i did some research and stumbled across a plugin called Backup which said that it would be able to do this for me. So I tried it and guess what; it did.
In the post I am going to go through how you can easily make backups of your WordPress blog on Google Drive. All you need is a Google Drive account to get started.
Once you have downloaded and installed the Backup plugin then you can head over to the plugins setup page. Here you will see that you need a Client ID and a Client Secret to be able to use the plugin. To get this you need to head over to the Google API console.
Once you have logged into the API Console with your Google account then you need to scroll down to Google Drive and click to activate. After this you will need to create your Client ID. In the application type make sure that you select Web Application.
After you have selected Web Application then you will be asked for your websites hostname. You will probably have to change from https to http if your website does not offer this. Then enter your websites URL and click on More Options. This is where you need to copy the URL from on the plugins setup page and paste it into the Authorized Redirect URLs box and then click to create your client ID
Once you have done this you will be given your Client ID and Secret so that you can copy and paste them into the plugins setup page and your website will now be authorized to access your Google Drive. After this you are given the options of how often you want to make backups and hoe many you want to make. Then that is it. You have now setup Google Drive backup of your blog.
If you like this plugin then make sure that you check it out and leave a review over at the plugins download page.
