Content Is Important From SEO Perspective and Does Deserve Expert Attention

The pendulum, so to speak, has swung the other way. Back in those halcyon days when internet was becoming popular as a platform for business and SEO was just beginning to bloom, there was an easy way for SEO “experts” and for website owners to rank high in search engines and thus drive traffic to their websites. It was a simple matter to populate websites with meaningless content that had specific keywords. It was simple enough to write spun articles by the hundreds full of meaningless drivel but full of keywords, as many as 10 to 20 in the page and thus create back links from article sites as a way to get more traffic.  The result? Visitors would navigate to a site where they hoped to find some really useful information only to find there was absolutely no information on the website or on article sites. Internet marketing experts offered affordable SEO packages because they had worthless content written by people who did not know the first thing about content or sentence construction. Black hat SEO became a fine art.

Google and other search engines learnt about this and found that instead of helping the end users, who were searching for information, such practices did nothing to enrich the online store of knowledge nor did it help promote genuine businesses. Over a decade major search engines have been refining their algorithms to weed out spam and black hat practices and even black list websites they find in contravention of what they define as fair SEO practices. The purpose of searches is to find information. Search engines took it on themselves to emphasize this aspect and have been refining algorithms that now place emphasis on the information contained within a web page. Recent revisions to Google’s Penguin, Panda and Hummingbird algorithms place more emphasis on content. If a page is found to contain text that is really informative and useful from a user perspective, it receives better ranking.

In recent times social media has grown exponentially and it is also vulnerable to exploitation by unscrupulous people simply to gain traffic and earn money or promote their sites to the detriment of genuine people who post genuinely useful information that is actually informational and educational. At the same time, social media is full of content that is really useful. When people come across such content they not only appreciate it but also put in efforts to let others in their circle know about it because social media is all about sharing and good content is shared. Good, useful content spreads in ever widening ripples across the internet information pond. Google’s spiders crawl social media too and if they find good content, they rank that page higher. Conversely, poor content or keyword stuffed content is downgraded and spammed pages can result in the website being banned.

Website owners and even SEO exports have modified strategies and now even the most affordable seo packages from London based specialists emphasize rich, informational content aligned with search engine algorithms because that is the only organic way to rise in search engine rankings. As they always say, content was and is king.
